IWA Australia Ltd is a not-for-profit charitable organisation that was established in 1991 to address the unmet needs of the Culturally & Linguistically Diverse community in Brisbane specifically Muslim women and their families.
Since then, IWA has grown from strength to strength, providing services in areas like settlement, aged care, disability, respite, and community development and DFV serving communities nationally with offices in various cities across Australia.
IWA Australia offers dedicated support services for women and children from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) backgrounds who are experiencing Domestic and Family Violence (DFV). Our services are designed to empower, protect, and help clients rebuild their lives in a safe, supportive environment.
Crisis Accommodation
Safe, temporary housing for women and children fleeing from Domestic and Family Violence (DFV).
Mobile Support
Our mobile support team provides assistance, safety planning, and guidance during times of crisis. Our services include:
- Information and Guidance on DFV: Providing clients with essential information about domestic and family violence and their rights.
- Financial Support Assistance: Helping clients access financial support, including Centrelink services and financial planning.
- Healthcare Referrals: Connecting clients to healthcare professionals such as doctors, counsellors, and psychologists for physical and mental health support.
- Housing Support: Assisting clients in preventing homelessness and maintaining stable housing by providing referrals to housing services and social housing options.
- Advocacy with Landlords and Property Managers: Preventing eviction and ensuring housing stability by advocating with landlords and property managers.
- Family and Legal Support: Linking clients to family support services and legal assistance for ongoing help.
- Community Outreach and Education: Conducting outreach to raise awareness about DFV and available support services.
Health and Wellbeing Programs
Our Health & Wellbeing Programs provide access to holistic, trauma-informed services that address the emotional and cultural needs of individuals. We work alongside other service providers to offer comprehensive support that helps clients recover from trauma, rebuild their lives, and regain independence.
